Make-In-Telangana Lion Wows Business Heads

HYDERABAD: The Make-in-India lion turned Pink and roared for Telangana, loud and clear, at an arguably unprecedented investment drive, conceived and executed by Team KCR, at the HICC Convention Centre here Friday. The 3-hour-long event, held at a private venue instead of the routine Secretariat premises, to unveil the TS Industrial Policy Framework has several firsts.

No State had hitherto packaged the very launch of its industrial policy as an irresistible invite for business honchos — Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao did so amidst the who’s who of the industry. The stage itself was unusual with industry captains sharing the dais with the CM. Over 2,000 industrialists from across the country and officials from foreign embassies were in attendance. And the positive mood was almost palpable as the CM offered them on a platter just what they wanted — uninterrupted power and water supply, faster approvals, huge land bank, single window clearances, and above all, an aggressive, supportive attitude and graft-free and hassle-free transaction.

The swiftness with which the government is moving was on full display. When ITC chairman Y C Deveshwar announced `8,000-crore investment in TS, the CM wasted no time in directing his team to get going with formalities. According to B Prasada Rao, CMD, BHEL, when the firm bagged the order to construct a 6,000 MW power plant, the protocols were in place within three months. “The land was identified, acquired, forest and environment clearances and all other approvals were ready within three months,” he revealed.

The industrialists seemed genuinely impressed by the way the government dealt with some key issues. Around this time last year, frequent power cuts were a drag on businesses. “During elections, when they promised 24/7 power supply, we thought it was impossible...but he (KCR) made it possible...I keep asking his team as to how the CM did it!” said G M Rao, chairman, GMR Group.

TCS centre head V Rajanna too had a similar experience to share. “When we approached the CM over security concerns, he called his team and directed them to fix it in 24 hours... the premises for a police station was identified within 24 hours and it was operational in six days!” he said.

Recalling her first interaction with the CM, Sangita Reddy, MD, Apollo Hospitals, said, “We had several questions but he simply said, ‘please wait.’ And now his actions speak for themselves.”
