The European states themselves have problems with Euro. Norway, Swiss, UK, Denmark, Sweden and many more countries didn't join. about the trade, it is very smooth among the economically balanced states (mostly, west and north), the only issues with Eastern parts (those came out of USSR). Some of them have FTA and most of them have with the US too. There are many start ups in the EU (Eg: SAP), it is not just in the US. People go to the US for startups for two reasons. One it is very large society with large consumer spending. No one wanted to ignore that. Another the weather, you believe it or not. It plays a big role.

About your salary thing, if you tell the how different it is from the US, I can explain.

aren't the salaries too low compared to the US? for similar work?

does it mean too many prospective candidates, or too less work?

Your both questions are wrong.

The salaries are not too low compared to the US one. Instead of thinking in-terms of too many prospective candidates and the too less work, consider other parameters like minimum wage limit, different tax slabs & the deductions and the state & individual contribution towards the welfare systems. Both have different models. For eg, Denmark lo minimum wage almost like 20$ or more. But in the US it is about 7 or 8. But the educated professionals earn more the US. Same in Denmark, but high earners are happy to contribute more taxes compared to the low earners. Quasi socialism works well in a smaller societies, but a pragmatic solution in the large societies. Still the US tries its best. Just my take on it.

but the salaries are low for what is considered 'hi-tech' work.

I understand the socialistic paradises these countries have built and know it won't work in multicultural societies like the US.

that is why, I stick to my point about currency manipulation. Europe is stagnant because they are not free to manipulate currency, and create useless securities market, like insurance, finance, and even housing. All economic areas extrinsic to 'innovation'.

I mean, do any of the western countries give tax breaks to mortgage payments like US does?

As far as industrial tech goes, Germany, along with even UK, France is not behind US at all. where they lag is consumer tech, which as you point out is because of US's access to its huge market.

since most of the industrial tech is from Europe. it is biksham to the US. along with their highly talented workforce.
