HYDERABAD: Bishop Harry Sebastian's habit of recording calls in his cellphone might prove to be the nemesis of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Telangana as it is his phone which contains the crucial recording of the telephonic conversation between AP chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and nominated MLA Elvis Stephenson, the complainant in the cash-for-vote case.

On the basis of Stephenson's complaint, the Telangana ACB had trapped and arrested TDP MLA A Revanth Reddy and accomplices Sebastian and R Uday Simha in the cash-for-vote case. According to ACB sources, the two cellphones provided to Stephenson by the investigative agency as part of the trap has evidence to nail Revanth and two others who were physically present there at the time of the trap. "However, after examining the seized phone of accused Sebastian, we discovered that he had a habit of recording all his phone conversations and this has provided us with solid evidence to nail others in the case including the AP CM," the sources said. Citing the call recordings in Sebastian's phone, which was seized during the trap on May 31 as evidence, the ACB has already arrested Sattupally TDP MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah. In the remand case diary furnished before the court in relation to MLA Sandra Venkata Veeraiah's arrest, ACB stated that several call recordings were found in Sebastian's HTC phone logged between May 23 and May 31. Among the multiple recordings, 23 were conversations between Sebastian and Veeraiah.

According to top sources of ACB, in the remaining audio recordings in the phone is the prized recording of CM Naidu's conversation with Stephenson where the chief minister reportedly assures the nominated MLA that, "our people briefed me and we will work together." In his statement recorded before the magistrate under section 164 CrPC, Stephenson stated that at 4 pm on May 30, Sebastian called him from the latter's phone and made Naidu talk to him about the cash-for-vote deal.

Stephenson has also stated that on May 30, Sebastian spoke to him on multiple occasions on phone to confirm Revanth Reddy's meeting at the complainant's house in Bhoiguda. "The mirror image copy of Sebastian's phone that was extracted by the forensic experts confirm these conversations," the sources said. ACB also reportedly got confirmation that during the time of the crucial call, Sebastian and the AP CM were at the same 'tower location.'

TDP activist Jimmy Babu, who did not respond to the notice served by the ACB to appear before the Investigating Officer, also reportedly spoke to Sebastian on phone about the cash-for-vote deal and those recordings too were found in the HTC phone of Sebastian, the ACBsleuths said.
