Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal: Is he normal? — By FPJ Bureau | Jul 14, 2015 12:07 pm

It is hard to deal with a maverick. Now Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Chief Minister and the supreme boss of the Aam Aadmi Party, has come up with a hare-brained idea to conduct a referendum in the capital whether or not the people want the union territory to be given full-fledged statehood. Of course, there is no provision in law for such a referendum. But this has not prevented the bull-in-the china-shop to try and unsettle things and thus invite attention to his own failure to provide a meaningful government in the capital city of India. But why stop at merely asking the voters about statehood. Now that you are at it, why not ask if they would like to break free and form an independent republic to be named Arvindstan. A bad workman quarrels with his tools.

Even if Kejriwal is given free rein, he will make a mess of Delhi because governance is not his strong suit- street-side agitation and NGO entrepreneurship is. For god’s sake, have some mercy on the people in Delhi. Concentrate on their problems about health, education, transport, water, electricity, sanitation, etc; all areas directly under the Delhi Government, and prove that AAP is not all hot air and possesses some talent for administering the ever growing metropolis as well. Already, the USP of AAP lies in tatters what with a number of crooks and criminals among its legislators being exposed daily. Why does Kejriwal want to add to his own problems, coming up with outlandish ideas every other day? Instead, find a way to work with the Centre in the larger interest of Delhi in order to mitigate the growing civic mess. Going by his record, Kejriwal will continue to indulge in diversionary pranks and antics to the growing consternation of the voters.
