State’s single-desk clearance system approves 2/3rd of over 900 proposals

HYDERABAD, JULY 16:

Andhra Pradesh has begun to interest investors from Japan, China, Taiwan and Europe with proposals worth over ₹1,00,000 crore at various stages of discussions and two-thirds of over 900 proposals cleared by a single desk.

Over two dozen projects, with a total outlay of over ₹12,000 crore, are expected to be grounded before the end of the year and negotiations are on for some of the heavy manufacturing companies, a senior government official told BusinessLine.

The new industrial policy, various sector specific policies and the single-desk clearance system created in the industrial department have created for potential investors, the official explained.

Noticeable change

The single-desk system started by the N Chandrababu Naidu government seems to be making a difference.

So far, of the 915 applications made during the first quarter of this financial year, 614 projects have been cleared. Some 229 applications are pending seeking certain clearances and about 53 applications have been returned as they were found wanting.

The single-desk system was created to enable industrial applications to secure clearance within 21 days.

The desk facility helps applicants to secure clearances from 16 departments providing permission from about two dozen departments.

Advanced stage

The official said that a number of manufacturing companies, which require shipment facilities, are at an advanced stage of discussions and are awaiting for more support from the Centre as a part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Chandrababu Naidu’s visits to Japan (twice), Singapore, China and Europe have had follow-up interactions and several companies are expected to finalise their plans.

A number of projects have had their ground-breaking ceremoniesduring the year and several others are expected to come up in the latter part of the year.

Companies in the FMCG sector such as Colgate Palmolive, Kelloggs, Pepsi, Cadbury’s and Unicharm (a Japanese health and hygiene company at Sri City), NHK Bearings, Deccan Fine Chemicals (a subsidiary of Japanese major Mitsubishi), have either began work on their projects or are in the process of doing so.

The recent interactions with Taiwanese contract manufacturer Foxconn have been fruitful with the company keen to locate to a major facility in the State.

The government is considering the proposal to convert one of the zones to serve as a manufacturing hub for mobile phones.
