The huge circular bypass wraps right around the estate in Guangzhou, China, and was built when a compensation agreement could not be reached. Some residents wanted the new road to bypass their flats rather than see them being demolished. After refusing to leave their homes, developers were faced with the choice of abandoning the project or coming up with a new plan. And come up with a new plan is exactly what they did - developers chose to simply build the road around the flats instead. People still living in the flats are said to be seeking more compensation.
