The Ultimate Uk To Usa Road Trip Is A Little Bit Closer To Reality

A while ago we told you about how an ambitious plan to boost Russia's tourism prospects could one day see the construction of a mammoth highway that you could feasibly use to drive all the way from Europe to the USA. It all seemed a bit far-fetched at the time, but new proposals suggest an arguably more achievable bridge between Russia and Alaska that could allow the rest of the ‘Trans-Eurasian Belt’ to come to fruition. 

When The Siberian Times originally reported the plans of Russian Railway president  Vladimir Yakunin, they said that only a tunnel would be needed to connect the 55 miles of sea between Russia and the USA. This tunnel, though, would take years to build, and cost an absolutely unfathomable amount of money. New plans, however, propose a large bridge across the sea instead, that would be significantly easier and cheaper to build.

The big draw for the UK is that such a bridge would make it possible to drive all the way from London to Los Angeles. An epic road trip, no doubt, but one that would require a sprawling 6,200 mile trek across Russia first. That's a lot of Top Trumps.

The other stumbling block is that right now there is no road that connects Nome - the closest Alaskan town to Russia - with the rest of the USA's state road system. 

Will it ever happen? Who knows. But look at it this way. If you start preparing your ultimate road trip playlist now, you might just have enough songs ready to last you the journey by the time it does.
