HYDERABAD: Students, who were at the forefront of the separate statehood movement, are once again making moves to launch another agitation, this time for ‘social justice.’ Scores of student unions affiliated to various castes and political parties are coming under the banner of the Telangana Students’ Joint Action Committee (TSJAC) to take spearhead the proposed stir.

The JAC wants to rope in AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi to take the battle to the TRS government on a range of issues. Rahul is likely to visit the State on August 22 or 24. Accordingly, the TSJAC is planning a public meeting, to coincide with his visit, at the Arts College on the Osmania University campus with nearly one lakh students drawn from across the universities in the State.

The meeting is christened as ‘Telangana Vidyarthi Yuvajana Atma Gourava Sabha’ and a delegation of representatives of the student unions will be meeting Rahul Gandhi on August 7 at 2.40 pm in Delhi to discuss with him issues concerning the State and invite him for the meeting.

Congress students’ wing, NSUI, is also a part of the JAC. “Our agenda is to expose the TRS government’s failures with respect to social justice in the state. The TRS has failed in several aspects right from making a Dalit the Chief Minister of the new state to giving three-acre plots to Dalits in the state,’’ OUJAC chairman P Kailash told Express.

Except for the TRS students’ wing, TRSV, and BJP’s ABVP, a majority of the students’ unions are likely to join hands. The unions also want to raise the issue of inordinate delay in filling up one lakh government jobs and the alleged negligent attitude of the government towards universities.

A section of the students unions, it is learnt, is also unhappy over the working style of Telangana Political JAC and decided to raise their voice against the government. However, the JAC is likely to invite TJAC chairman Prof Kodandaram for the meeting.
