Stone laid for 750 acre food park in Andhra

 

Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday laid the foundation stone for an ultra mega food park in Kurnool district of the state.

The 750 acre park will include facilities for fruit processing, vegetables and spices processing, agri biotech and research and development.

Jain Irrigation will be the key player at the food park. Under the manufacturing setup, the food park will include micro-irrigation systems, PVC & PE pipes and on the technology side it will have a crop and water-harvesting demonstration centre and renewable energy hub. Jain Irrigation Systems Limited to invest Rs 365 crore in this park.

“Food habits are changing with lifestyles. The increasing demand for food is a growing concern. The R&D centre will help us understand the existing trends, consumption pattern of certain foods and predict the need for future,” said Naidu.

The food park will cater to the growing needs of the agro-processing industry and will serve as the anchor for the district, he added.

The chief minister also laid the foundation stone for Gujarat Ambuja exports facility, which will be developed over 200 acres of land at an investment of Rs 240 crore.

The company is setting up a maize processing unit in Orvakallu of the Kurnool district, which will offer both direct and indirect employment to local people. This unit will crush 750 million tonne of maize and will have a derivates (of maize) capacity of 350 tonne per day.
