A 39-year-old Ocala pharmacist was killed and another woman was injured in a two-vehicle crash on State Road 200 Wednesday morning.

Madhavi Balineni died following the accident, which occurred at 7:59 a.m. in the 5000 block of Southwest State Road 200, according to the Ocala Police Department. She had been driving a 1992 Honda Accord west in the inside lane when, for an unknown reason, her car crossed over the median and into the eastbound lanes.

A 2002 Nissan Altima driven by Rubie Tamayo, 22, of Ocala, struck the passenger side of the Honda, officers said.

Tamayo was taken to Munroe Regional Medical Center, where she was treated and released, according to OPD. Tamayo, who was wearing a seat belt, had been on her way to Gainesville at the time.

Balineni was taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead at 9:13 a.m., officials said. She was not wearing a seat belt.

Officers were told Balineni had been on her way to work at the CVS store at Southwest 60th Avenue when the accident happened.

According to Michael DeAngelis, a spokesman with CVS, "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague, Madhavi Balineni, who worked as a pharmacist for us in Ocala since 2007. We extend our sincere condolences to her family and friends.

"Madhavi was an excellent pharmacist who cared deeply for her patients. She was loved and respected by her CVS colleagues in Ocala. Our employees are devastated about this tragic accident and we are making counseling services available to them."

The fatality is the eighth traffic death in the city so far this year. In 2014, the cityโ€™s traffic death toll was four
