This tiny village is going to enter Guinness Book of Records for the fifth time in a row for making largest size laddu to offer to Lord Ganesh.

The credit of making two mammoth 8.3-tonne and 6.3-tonne laddus goes to Sri Bhakta Anjaneya Sweets, Tapeswaram, and both laddus have left for their destinations, one for Gajuwaka, Vizag and other for Vijayawada for Vinayaka Chaviti, on Thursday.

In addition to the 8.3 tonne laddu, a 6,300-kg laddu is being prepared for Vijayawada-based Dundi Ganesh Seva Samiti which is installing a 63-foot Natya Ganesh idol.

“We are making an attempt for another Guinness Record for this laddu,” said Saladi Venkateswara Rao popularly known as Srinu Babu, the owner of Sri Bhakta Anjaneya Sweets.

According to Srinu Babu, they already had four Guinness Records to their credit for making large laddus, and were aiming to better their own record by preparing 8,300 kg laddu this year. “We have just weighed the laddu in front of Weights and Measurements officials for official record,” he added.

Sri Bhakthanjaneya Sweets entered Guinness Records Book by making laddus weighing 5,570 kg in 2011, 6,599 kg in 2012, 7,132 kg in 2013 and a 7,858 kg laddu last year.

The 8.3 tonne laddu already left for Gajuwaka to travel a 200-km journey from Tapeswaram to Vizag on Wednesday evening and it will be offered to the Gajuwaka Ganesha.

The 80-foot Ganesha idol being installed at Gajuwaka by the Visakha Integrated Social Welfare Association (VISWA) with support from NRIs is all set to receive a record-busting laddu costing a whopping Rs 16.5 lakh this year.

Speaking to The Hindu, Mr. Srinu Babu said, “We used around 2,900 kg sugar, 2,300 kg tur dal, 1,100 kg ghee, 700 kg sugar chips, 800 kg dry fruits, 40 kg of cardamom and 10 kg camphor for the 8,300 kg laddu, which was prepared in 12 hours by a 15-member team.”

“Our aim is to continue making bigger Ganesha laddus till we get 10 world records,” he said.
