CKRAVI Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 PM Modi will attend the United Nations General Assembly session in New York before he heads to the West Coast. NEW YORK: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has begun his New York engagements with a strong pitch for investment in India to nine top American CEOs from the financial sector at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel where he is staying. Following are the latest developments in this story: "Our government strongly supports Public Private Partnership," the Prime Minister told the CEOs. He said India's GDP growth last year was 7.3 per cent and there has been a 40 per cent increase in Foreign Direct Investment. After this meeting PM Modi will attend a round table on media, technology and communications that will focus on India's growth story. This is primarily being coordinated by Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation but will have CEOs from other media entities as well, said Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup. Later in the day, PM Modi will meet 47 CEOs for dinner, also at the Waldorf Astoria. The interactive session will be moderated by Fortune Editor Alan Murray. Mr Swarup has described this as a "major push for the Make in India programme". Among those attending the discussion on the financial sector with the PM are Jamie Dimon of JP Morgan, Steve Schwarzman of Blackstone and Warburg Pincus' Charles Kaye. Also at the meeting are Henry Kravis of KKR, Bill Ford of General Atlantic, Peter Hancock of AIG Insurance, Chase Coleman of Tiger Global, Evan Greenberg of ACE Ltd and Vicki Fuller, chief investment officer of New York State Common Retirement. The Prime Minister arrived in New York early this morning (last evening local time) and was greeted at his hotel by about 500 members of the Indian community. A section of the Patel community in the US, which had planned a protest, called it off and said they would welcome PM Modi. PM Modi will attend the United Nations General Assembly session in New York before he heads to the West Coast. He will also meet US President Barack Obama during his six-day US trip. On Saturday, PM Modi will host German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Japanese PM Shinzo Abe and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff in a special summit of what is known as the G-4 group - countries which back each other's bid for permanent seats at the UN Security Council. From New York, the PM will travel to Silicon Valley where he will visit the Facebook headquarters in California for a Townhall with its CEO Mark Zuckerberg and the Google campus. He will also address the 'India-US Start-up Konnect', where Indian startups will present their products to an American gathering. In San Jose on Sunday, September 27, PM Modi will interact with the Indian community at the SAP Centre, an event that the organisers say will be as grand as his reception at New York's Madison Square Garden last year.
