simplee Posted September 24, 2015 Report Posted September 24, 2015 Hyderabad: Chandrababu Naidu, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, took about one day time to respond to the tobacco farmer's suicide and allegations leveled by the farmer in his last letter. The letter clearly mentioned that the tobacco farmers in the state are nothing but distressed. The W. Godavari farmer Simhadri Venkateshwar Rao, committed suicide because he could pay off the loans he took for son's education and for tobacco cultivation. Before committing suicide, the 49-year-old wrote a letter to the Chief Minister, questioning the priorities of the CM. He wrote, "the farmers are distressed because of heavy debts. They took loans and are not in position to repay hence are committing suicides. Rs 5.5 crores have been spent on bus to ensure safety of CM but nothing done to ensure safety of farmers. I am writing this on behalf of all farmers. The government is not addressing our problems, I'm committing suicide." While the local media that works on the guidelines of the government did not even highlight this national media CNN IBN Live took it seriously and questioned the CM about the suicide and the allegations leveled by the farmer. Chandrababu Naidu replied that he's doing best possible to save the plight of the farmers. CM said that the government spent over Rs 25,000 crores only to address issues of the and that no prior governments gave such offers to farmers. Replying to 5.5 crore bus he said that suicide is different from his safety and security. The CM reportedly said that he cannot compromise on his security. There is heavy criticism on Chandrababu Naidu for spending money lavishly - on revamping his lake view guest house, and hiring private aircraft for all of his national and international trips, and also renovation of secretariat and even his temporary residence. The AP government is spending a lot on CM's convoy too. He's spending so much from the state exchequer for satisfying his ego at the time when he's on one hand saying Andhra Pradesh is facing major financial crisis and needs a package from center.
