gunturodu1 Posted September 28, 2015 Report Posted September 28, 2015 Atlanta, GA:Two employees of Gulfstream, Savannah lost their lives while participating in Ganesh Visarjan off Tybee Island, according to a statement released by Indians Friends of Atlanta (IFA). Crews on Tybee Island are still searching for a third man, while a fourth man is in emergency care. A group had gathered near the sand bar south of 19th Street when they became stranded in the water about 5:50 p.m., said Tybee Island Fire Chief Ashley Fields. Four people were pulled from the water and taken to the near by Memorial University Medical Center. Two of them died, Fields said. “With deep regret and heavy hearts IFA informs that Anup Kshirsagar, Sriram Raj, Abhijeet Alhat and Dhanunjay Bathula employees of Gulfstream, Savannah, GA have met with an accident while participating in Ganesh Nimajjanam in Savannah,GA,” said the IFA statement. “Unfortunately Anup Kshirsagar and Sriram Raj have lost their lives. Authorities are still searching for Abhijeet Alhat. While Dhanunjay is found, he is in emergency care in a nearby hospital.” IFA and Sewa International, Atlanta chapter are among the Atlanta organizations that are coordinating with the Indian Consulate in Atlanta to help the affected families. Crews searched into the night for Abhijeet Alhat. Early Monday morning, firefighters were back out in the water along with Savannah-Chatham police and rangers from the state Department of Natural Resources, according to media reports. The 49-year-old Toronto man was last seen in the water near Ajax. His body was found on the shores of Lake Ontario on Monday morning, Durham regional police say. Police say a passerby notified them. The man’s name is not being released at the request of the family. Police received a call around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday about a man who was in distress near Rotary Park. Witnesses had reported the man was was about 500 metres from the shore. Family members said he went out with a life jacket. When police arrived at the scene, they located an empty kayak, and a grid search was conducted in the water. Police said the conditions were rough. The search was called off for the night on Sunday but resumed on Monday.
