Former Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Daggubati Purandeshwari on Thursday blamed it on her brother-in-law and AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for the goof-up on special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

Purandeshwari told media in Guntur that there was no point in Naidu hoodwinking the people on special category status to AP, since he was fully aware that the Centre would not be able to grant special status to any State as per the 14th Finance Commission recommendations.

She said the Narendra Modi government has been working out a “special package” of funds to Andhra Pradesh, which would be much better than what the State would have got with the Special status.

She also accused Naidu of not providing enough details to the Centre on requirement of funds to Polavaram project.

“Yet, the Centre has been releasing funds periodically for the project works. The government should submit expenditure reports to the Centre, so that it could release more funds as and when required,” Purandeshwari said.
