A few more Somali nationals in a boat have been detected by Indian Naval Warship INS Sujata at 12 PM today about 100 Km south of Kavaratti Island of Lakshadweep. Aircraft and ships of Indian Navy and Coast Guard had launched intense search operations in the waters off Lakshadweep Islands since the evening of 26th May, in the wake of the apprehension of three Somalian nationals from Minicoy Islands.

The Somali nationals are being brought to Kochi for interrogation. A detailed interrogation of the three men would be conducted by the Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard and the local Police to ascertain their identity and intentions after they regain their health in the local Government hospital where they are admitted.

Earlier in the morning (see Photos ) the Indian Navy and Coast Guard along with local Police launched combing operations in the waters around Lakshadweep Islands following reports of sighting of a suspicious boat around 5 Km off the Minicoy Island of Lakshadweep at about 5 PM on 26th May. As per the Defence Pro, the search yielded an abandoned boat in the area at about 7 PM that day. Subsequently, three Somalian nationals were discovered in an unconscious state at the north end of the island at 6:45 AM on 27th May. The men who were exhausted and dehydrated had managed to swim ashore after abandoning their boat. It is also learnt that a fourth man drowned as they swam ashore.
