maximummax Posted October 22, 2015 Report Posted October 22, 2015 Are we in U.S. airspace yet?': Woman who gave birth at 30,000 feet deported and separated from baby The heartwarming story of a woman who gave birth at 30,000 feet has taken a twist after she was deported from the U.S. and separated from her baby. The woman, known only by her surname Jian, was flying from her home country of Taiwan to Los Angeles with China Airlines when the miracle happened earlier this month. But now it has been claimed that she refused to lay down to give birth and repeatedly asked airline staff, “Are we in U.S. airspace yet?” Flight attendant Lucienne Chen said that Jian failed to tell staff that she was pregnant when she boarded the flight, reported Shanghaiist.com. Jian, who was almost 32-weeks pregnant, was separated from her child on Saturday after the newborn was awarded U.S. citizenship. Infants are not allowed to fly before they are 14 days old, so the child is now under the care of state authorities in Alaska. When Jian’s waters broke six hours into the 19-hour flight, panicked staff called for medical assistance on the flight. Taiwan's Transportation Minister Chen Jian-yu said that compensation to China Airlines “will likely be inevitable.” Lo claims that diverting the plane cost the airline millions of Taiwanese dollars and affected the other 200 passengers on board. "The woman is tough as nails," passenger Amira Rajput, who filmed the video, said afterwards. “People were super quiet and calm so that this woman could have a stress-free experience.”
