kakatiya Posted October 27, 2015 Author Report Posted October 27, 2015 Shining star: Y. Pranjala, an eighth standard student of Chinmaya Public school, Begumpet has been ranked India No. 1 in the girls' under-12 category. For Yedlapalli Pranjala, the week that has gone by is one which she would remember for a long, long time. This eighth standard student of Chinmaya Public school (Begumpet) has been ranked India No. 1 in the girls' under-12 category. By no means an ordinary achievement, given the fact that she drifted into a tennis court at Sarojini Cricket & Fitness Academy (Azamabad) thanks to her father Y. Kishore, who took her there just to see that she maintains the minimum fitness levels. Then the biggest piece of advice came from the Director of the Academy and former national volleyball player Kiran Reddy, who insisted that the young girl who played tennis just for the sake of fitness should take up the sport with all seriousness. An idea which initially did raise some doubts but fortunately, when one looks back in hindsight, the parents decided to put Pranjala in tennis. Soon, under the tutelage of the dedicated Sanjay at the Sun-Jay Academy (ASCI Courts, Banjara Hills), Pranjala blossomed into one of the most promising players in her age group. Well, if her father is a worried man, it should be on the more pleasing aspect–to keep increasing the size of the cupboard. For Pranjala has already won 23 singles and nine doubles titles in the Talent Series, 10 singles and seven doubles in the Championship Series and one Super Series singles title already. “I enjoy tennis and dream to play in Wimbledon one day,” says the unassuming Pranjala, even while showing clear signs that she is aware of what she is targeting. “I am thankful to my sir (Sanjay) for all the efforts he puts in,” she says. “Definitely, I need to improve upon my serve and I am really working hard in this area,” she said to a query. With her father, who is a businessman, and her housewife mother extending all possible support, Pranjala is determined to keep improving. Her coach Sanjay points out that his most famous trainee's strong points are forehand and that she rarely misses any ground-strokes. “The fact that she keeps winning across the cities in India is a fair indication that she is not over-awed by either the ambience or the opposition,” he explains. For her part, Pranjala says she admires the two most famous Hyderabad women sportspersons–Sania Mirza and Saina Nehwal—a lot. “They are so good to watch in their respective disciplines. I would be happy if I can make a mark at the highest level in the days to come,” she says with a typical smile. Interestingly, Pranjala is ranked India No. 13 in the under-14 category and No. 42 in the under-16 section, proving that she has already started competing in higher age groups. “We shifted our family from Amberpet just to see that the girl gets the best of training from Sanjay who is rated very high in the tennis circles because of his sincerity and commitment,” says the proud father. “In fact, Pranjala won her first title after she joined the Sun-Jay Academy,” he added.
