Chiru eyes long-term interest in alliance with Congress

The Praja Rajyam party wants to develop its ties with the Congress on a long term basis. According to reliable sources, the party wants to have ties on the lines of the NCP- Congress in Maharashtra. The leadership will share seats for the municipal polls this year and local body polls later next year in addition to supporting the Congress in the Rajya Sabha elections.

It is said that the party has taken this decision after a careful study of the political situation in the state, particularly in coastal districts, where the party has a strong base. It is also learnt that the leadership wants to avoid triangular contests with the Telugu Desam and its allies, the Left parties, are waiting in the wings to grab the opportunity.

The PR leadership feels that triangular and multi-cornered contests may affect its interests in these polls. The party also wanted to gauge the pulse of party cadre on this issue, particularly in Godavari districts where party supremo Mr Chiranjeevi conducted his Polavaram yatra recently.

Sources disclosed that the views expressed by local leaders on the tie-up were also discussed at length at the Hyderabad meet. Based on long-term interests, it was decided to go ahead with the alliance. Allaying the apprehensions about the party merger with Congress a close aide of Mr Chiranjeevi and MLA from East Godavari, Mr Kurasala Kannababu, said that the party will not merge with Congress but extends support to it in Rajya Sabha polls and in the subsequent local body elections.


I think this is good news to TDP because opposition votes will not be divided from now on ...... endukante Votes will only have two options (Congress-PRP) or main opposition TDP............ emantaru friends???  cheers12w cheers12w

mama this is too early to say tht they will be together till next elections malli chinna godava ayina vidipotharu...its too early to speculate..ee coalition only rajyasabha elections varake..

I think PRP will eventually merge in to congress..That would be either to silence jagan and co or to increase their votebank in coastal districts..And for chiru it would give an opportunity to get a ministerial berth..On the other hand, if PRP and congress do not merge and contest separately, it should only be to split the anti-incumbency vote in favor of congress..
So I guess, PRP and Congress alliance is not so useful
