The only thing that you should take care when you are on H-1b is that you are paid for as long as you live ib the U. S. on that status.

You could take vacation as sick leave, paid time off, short term disability,long term disability, etc but you must be paid for all the time you are out of the office.

You cannot be doing a "Loss Of Pay" (LOP) while you are in the U. S. however if you do a LOP while you are outside the U. S. make sure you have all the proper documented approval from your employer.
