TDP may fight it alone in GHMC polls!

 

 

With BJP facing severe anti-incumbency wave across the country and suffering back to back humiliating defeats in Delhi Assembly, Bihar Assemblyelections recently, the Telangana TDP leaders want the party to contest alone in ensuing GHMC elections in January 2016 instead of forging an alliance with BJP.

TTDP leaders and TDP leaders in GHMC limits now see BJP as a 'liability', when it was considered as an 'asset' during 2014 general elections.

Even in the two Lok Sabha bypolls held in Telangana State during the last one year, the TDP-BJP combine failed to create any impact and lost even the deposit.

TDP left both Medak Lok Sabha seat and Warangal Lok Sabha seat to BJP as part of pre-poll alliance, but in both the seats BJP lost miserably.

TTDP leaders who argued for TDP fielding its candidate in Medak and Warangal, later kept silent after TDP chief and AP CM N Chandrababu Naidu warned them against make any adverse comments on BJP or Modi, which may impact the TDP government in AP, which is in dire need of NDA government's help for developing new capital city and special packages for development of AP.

However, after BJP candidate stood third and even lost deposit in Warangal bypoll, TTDP leaders and cadre are openly demanding the party leadership not to enter into any pre-poll arrangement with BJP in upcoming GHMC elections, else TDP would meet the same fate as happened in Medak and Warangal.

They are urging Naidu to consider 'friendly contest' with BJP, wherever required in GHMC polls along the lines of MIM and Congress, which used to make this arrangement during YS Rajashekar Reddy's regime.

Under this, one party will field a weak candidate wherever other party is strong and this arrangement worked out for Congress and MIM in 2009 GHMC elections, which bagged Mayor seat and shared Mayor post for three years and two years respectively. 

Now, TDP leaders too want similar arrangement with BJP in GHMC polls, else TRS and MIM combine would wrest Mayor seat comfortably.
