griffins
SantaClaus is not always white but he is identified by a majority as a caucasian old man with a white beard. You can go to wiki to read about his legend and stories on how the santaclaus thing started. What bothers me though is the way the question was framed. It appears as a provocative statement rather. Its an old european tradition where kids get gifts from "santaclaus" who ofcourse is a person in disguise behind that beard. The gifts are normally put under the christmas tree or in socks hanging from a fire place. Kids absolutely love it. This is the best time of the year for everyone in the family. Now why does someone wants to gift to kids in disguise is probably better explained by a psycologist...however from generations this tradition is working absolutely fine.
