Don't know how it started , but what i believe is GOD has been projected as some source which has been created by some intellects ages back to civilize or lets say educate people (considering most people to be laymen in all terms many many years back) as they do not have enough knowledge on anything when compared to present generation, thus injecting fear of god and it continued by some more intellects who evolved  over the years came up with different religions and preaches ... ani na feeling  ....still in search of proper answer though..
