Tamils are like any other community in India, who are shaped by centuries of history and rich literature. except they have a headstart compared to most communities in India. 

 

Naturally they are not satisfied by being just a part of India.

 

I don't think you've spoken to Jat Sikhs, or Rajputs. If there were enough of them, they'll probably be the most hated group in India.

To the original question. Its just plain old racism. Skin color, especially.

Tamils are more kind hearted, more polite, more interested in social equality, than most other groups in India I know of.

 

The dominant discourse in TN is not about who made how much money, etc.
