Vedas/upanishads state about the caste , but the meaning of the caste itself has been changed along the way.
I have read an article about the origins of caste system. It states that caste system was made to differentiate the tasks which are done by various people .. like kshathriyas - to gaurd the people, Bhramins - To guide the people, shudras- there are various Categories (where they are assigned different tasks) .. As the days passed, there are few who has misused the system for their benfits and subdued the lower castes..

Thats what even happened with the christainity .. medieval perios pope was so strong that he used to command mass assasinations who ever oppose the system ..

Daanne aa poets konchem masala nuri manchi rasavattharanga raasaru.. Between I believe Hinduism is not about believing crores of gods and their incarnations, it is about a very old way of living.. There used to great freedom and flexibility for all sections of people in the olden days.. That is why it was called Sanathana Dharma.. People who are selfish created things like caste..

*=: i totally agree with you .. infact there's a well known argument about the existence of many number of gods in our religion. all those good persons or great kings are just mere human beings but as they have chosen the right path they are treated as the idols and eventually they have become the gods.. may be in future for some sect of the people NTR or YSR can become GOD. if next generation see their photographs along with other gods in your house, they might feel that ehy are gods and we get some more new gods .. i dont find anything wrong in following that .. as its good to have some inspiration if you get from them , that great else leave it ..

see my post in this link...

http://www.andhrafriends.com/index.php?topic=73166.0

Quite long ago the society was divided into four castes depending upon the nature of service they do so that they together make sure the smooth running of the social system. It was like the operational divisions of organizations. These four castes were the four functional pillars on which the society was standing. In the course of time the caste started to get determined by birth and later some of these sections started considering themselves superior to others. This finally led to the cruelty and inhuman behaviors of untouchability etc.

The most authentic and most widely accepted religious book in hinduism is THE BHAGAVAD GITA (as it is spoken by god, no other book can take the place of bhagavad gita, the name itself says Song sung by God)

Lets see wat gita has to say regarding caste-sytem.

NO WHERE IN GITA CASTE IS MENTIONED !

sri krishna clearly said in gita that HE DIVIDED PEOPLE BASED ON THEIR QUALITIES NOT ON THEIR BIRTHS.

Now let me tell u wat exactly the words, BRAHMIN, KSHATRIYA, , SUDRA means.

(for a moment forget that they r castes ok.)

BRAHMIN means a person who has BRAHMAN in man or a person who is close to god.
KSHATRIYA means a person who has physical power, bravery and valour.
VYISYA means a person who is rich and money behind him.
SUDRA means labourer.

Now tell me one thing here, If a baby takes birth and after time i will that baby as RAJU. Now tell me does this baby really became king to some country??? Noo. This baby can become king if he wins some battle of kingdoms when he grows up. This means that he becomes king based on his qualities not on this birth! This wat exactly told in gita by sri krishna !

BRAHMIN refers to person who is close to god . It does not mean that every person who takes birth in BRAHMIN caste is BRAHMIN ! ONE CAN BECOME BRAHMIN IF THEY BECOME CLOSE TO GOD. ONE CAN BECOME CLOSE TO GOD WHEN HE PRAYS OR IMPRESSES GOD.

KSHATRIYA means a person who has physical power, bravery and valour.
It does not mean that every person who takes birth in this caste is not KSHATRIYA. HE CAN BECOME POWERFUL PHYSICALLY BY HIS HARD WORK NOT BY BIRTH.

VYISYA means a person who is rich and money behind him. If a person who takes birth as VYISYA does not mean that he is rich person. He can become rich if he works hard to get rich. He can become VYISYA by his actions not by birth

SUDRA means a person who is a labourer. One can become sudra by actions not by birth.

Alaa em undadu mama.. It all depends on how people take the concepts of religion and caste.. Religions evi ainaa mana manchikosam erparcha baddaa vyavasthalu.. okko praantham vaallu okko rakangaa brathike vaaru first lo.. when people from different places meet and start living at one common place, obviously they would be differentiated on the basis of their way of living. aa way of living ne religion antaaru.. castes( varnas ) anevi further gaa same religion lo defferentitaion kosam pettukunnaaru based on their profession..

But when people of different believes ( Different Professions in the case of castes ) live together, its in the all human nature to dominate other sects.. adi ekkadainaa untundi.. not just because of religion or caste.. Avi oka main reason gaa kanpistunnayi anthe.. Avi kaakapothe inko matter paina fights avtaayi.. Its all in the human nature to try and be superior to others.. Until people realize the fact that no person on earth is inferior to other, try and love all people like one, these fights would never stop. I wonder this would ever happen..
