The Centre has made it compulsory for customers to produce their pan number for purchase of luxury items, costing over and above Rs. 50,000. Only those saving in post offices need not show their pan number for Rs. 50,000 and above. For non-luxury items, pan card number is must for purchases above Rs. 2 lakhs. Purchase of gold or air tickets for Rs. 50,000 and more, invites showing of pan card number.
