Big Blow As Us Deports Students Of Top Universities

Hyderabad: After deporting students bound for low-profile universities in the US like Silicon Valley University, North-Western Polytechnic University etc., there are now reports of students going to top-rated US universities like Colorado State University and University of Iowa being sent back after they failed to convince US immigration officials.

In the past 24 hours, about 50 to 60 students who were deported from US arrived at the Shamshabad airport. Over 130 students have been sent back from the US in the last three days.

An RGIA official said, “While the problem was only with Air India in the beginning, students who flew to US on Emirates, Etihad, Jet Airways and British Airways are also being deported now. The airport has received over 130 such students so far. Majority of the students belong to TS and AP.”

“We got information that two students each who got admission in Colorado State University and University of Iowa, were today deported to India by US immigration officials after they failed to give proper answers regarding their stay and finances. They are on way to Dubai now,” said Mr Surya Ganesh Valmiki, CMD, Valmiki Group.

Deported students can’t apply for admission to other US universities for 10 years

Hyderabad: Deported Indian students from US cannot reapply for admissions in other universities there unless the Centre comes to their rescue and convinces the US government. These students face a ban ranging from five to 10 years.

Even those students who opted for Silicon Valley University and North Western Polytechnic University and deferred their travel plans to the US fearing deportation cannot shift to other universities now since the admissions for the spring semester have concluded. They have to wait till August/September 2016 for fresh admissions in the US.

Meanwhile, the students are looking at Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the UK to pursue higher studies. Even for these countries, these students have to wait till the second half of 2016.

While admission session in Canada will be during May/June, Australia/New Zealand offers admissions during June/July and UK during Sept./ Oct. Normally, US universities have two intakes for admission purposes, namely Fall and Spring semesters.

Fall semester starts in late August and ends in late December or early January whereas the Spring semester begins in January and ends in early May.
