Silver_mani Posted January 4, 2016 Report Posted January 4, 2016 The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Saturday directed State Government, Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) and VNR Vignana Jyoti Engineering College in Hyderabad to pay Rs 20 lakh each to the kin of 24 engineering students who got swept away in the Beas river in 2014. Division Bench also said compensation amount will be paid at an interest rate of 7.5% per annum from Saturday. VNR Vignana Jyoti Engineering College students were on a tour to Manali on June 8th, 2014. Without any prior warning, Flood Gates of the Larji Dam were opened and the students of Hyderabad-based college got washed away due to the high currents. HPSEB, State Government and VNR Vignana Jyoti Engineering College management will share the compensation amount in the ratio of 60%, 30% and 10% respectively. The High Court offered 8 weeks to them to deposit the compensation money with the high court for disbursement to the families of the deceased students.
