HYDERABAD: Call it 'VIP culture' or utter insensitivity on the part of law enforcement authorities! When Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao visited a locality in Warangal on Wednesday, scores of patients were forced to walk for a kilometre to reach the district's only speciality cardiac care hospital. The 'blockade' played out from 9 am to 3.30 pm.

taking my 76-year-old grandfather to the hospital. He was suffering from chest pain on Wednesday morning and urgently needed medical attention. We eventually ended up walking the distance on foot," said V Kartik, a young MBA graduate. His grandfather A Lakshmaiah was eventually diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, which is characterised by irregular heartbeats and chest pain.

"If not diagnosed and treated on time, such conditions may often lead to paralytic episode or cardiac arrest," warned Dr Srinivas Ramaka, a consultant cardiologist and chairman of Srinivasa Heart Centre.
