Tax Pact Soon between AP and TG:

  • All hail to stupidity of KCR
  • TG operators are paying more to AP than vice versa.
  • Double taxation is killing companies profits of TG which export goods via AP seaports.
  • Even tour and private bus operators from TG are paying more to AP.
  • While AP getting 4 to 6 Cr income, TG is getting around 90 lacs.

Telangana had imposed separate tax on goods, commercial, and tourist vehicles entering the state three months ago. After protesting the move, the AP government also retaliated by imposing tax onTelangana vehicles. But after review, Telangana government found out that it was Telangana vehicles that are actually suffering financial loss due to double taxation.

"It was observed that vehicle owners from Telangana were paying an additional Rs 4 crore per month due to double taxation system. Most of the vehicles from Telangana move into Andhra and they have to pay the entry tax in AP. With many manufacturing units located in and around Hyderabad, it has become a burden on Telangana goods carriers," said an official in the Telangana transport department.

Similar impact was with regard to tourist vehicles. While more number of people from Telangana visit pilgrim places such as Tirupati, Srisailam, Vijayawada (Kanaka Durga temple), Annavaram (Satyanarayana Swamy temple), and Simhachalam near Visakhapatnam, the state is not able to attract similar number of pilgrims from AP to temples in Yadagirigutta, Vemulawada and Basara.

"This has resulted in loss of income to Telangana and additional burden on tourist operators belonging to the state. We have prepared plans to avoid double taxation and sent them to the government," said an official in the tourism department.

AP government is also incurring losses when it comes to contract carriers due to double taxation. Most of the private bus operators are from Andhra and they ply vehicles from Vijayawada and Guntur to Hyderabad.

"The stage carriers or private buses are paying Rs 90 lakh more due to double taxation and our bus operators are complaining over this," N Balasubramanyam, AP Transport commissioner told STOI.

Hitting upon the reality, both states are now thinking to enter into a pact to avoid entry tax on goods, tourist, contract, and stage carriers. A proposal to this effect is being prepared by both governments and a formal announcement will be made soon, said sources.

Prices of essential and other commodities have also increased due to double tax system. For instance, onions are transported to Hyderabad from Kurnool and thanks to double taxation, transporters pass on the burden of at least Rs 4 to the consumers.
