To call a revolving object , it needs to satisfy certain characteristics. with the initial proofs that NASA had , Pluto dint meet all the planet characteristics . Pluto is not a planet. Its a Dwarf planet.

 

So scientifically our solar system has 8 planets until the new discovery. According to the new discovery, looks like there is a huge object of the size 10 times the mass of Earth which take 20K yrs for it to orbit around the sun. This is strictly a THEORETICAL discovery and the new planet has not yet been observed.

 

It is theoretical because, the researchers used computer models to track the orbits of the various objects in Kuiper belt and observed that some of these objects where following a similar path due to unexplained gravity phenomenon. When they put the numbers into calculations they figured out theoretically this is only possible if there is an huge object in a large orbit outside the kuiper belt farther than Pluto (Pluto takes 248 yrs for one orbit around the sun and the new planet takes 20k years for one orbit around the sun. This puts in perspective how far the new planet is from the sun)
