I strived a lot you when i was in ur position. First thing is the market should be in boom but not the tech. You will find jobs in any technology.

Right now i thing SharePoint is in Boom

There are many approaches to get in to IT field

1. Try to get hold of only one company products, like say Microsoft, Learn SQL server, .NET, Share Point etc (also Microsoft Office)
2 The second approach would be
    >Learn one database
    > Learn one programming language
    > Learn one Operating System
                  or
    > If you can't get out with programming, better learn some tools. But the tools will not last long. They keep upgrading very often. But its not a great deal to upgrade yourself.
3 The third approach would be:
decide the field you want to go or you have good knowledge or you are interested or the field which pays high or the field which lasts long
4 The fourth approach would be to give a try in every field. If you got a job  in the process, then you are settled. Remember you can change your field later. Don't worry much about it.
5.  Try learning Testing, Data Stage or informatica, Business Objects, Database(PLSQL OR SQL Sever), Reporting tools, Programming languages, Networking, Mobile programming. One one should be fine

If you have trouble, i can help you out.
