gb_bharat Posted January 25, 2016 Report Posted January 25, 2016 Vijayawada, Jan 25: In a shocking incident, a final year engineering student who belonged to the Madiga SC community committed suicide at his rented accommodation in Vijayawada on Saturday night. 22-year old, Puvala Prem Prasad, who was studying Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Nova Engineering College, hanged himself when his five room-mates had gone to their native places for Pongal holidays. “Prem Prasad and Manideep returned to Vijayawada two days ago while the other three students are expected on Monday. On Saturday, Prem and Manideep went to college but Prem returned early. When Manideep returned at 1 am, he knocked but there was no answer. The houseowners pried open a window and saw Prem Prasad hanging from the fan,” Ibrahimpatnam police inspector D Chavan told Indian Express. (ALSO READ: After Rohith Vemula, three women medical students in Tamil Nadu commit suicide) Puvala Prem Prasad was in fourth year of engineering and depressed for not doing well in studies. Prasad failed in four subjects out of 12 in the first year, and failed in several subjects again in the second and third year. He had a backlog of 11 subjects and was expecting the results of supplementary exams next week. Besides having backlog of 11 subjects, Puvala Prasad was in depression after his parents passed away in 2013 and 2014, said his brother Puvala Nagarjuna. Puvala Prasad hailed from Vallur village of Kapileshwaram mandal of East Godavari district. Since Prasad left no suicide note, the reason behind the suicide continued to remain a mystery. On January 24, three girl students of Svs Medical College of Yoga and Naturopathy and Research Institute allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a farm well after harassment by the management demanding ‘exorbitant’ fees. These incidents came to light after a dalit scholar of Hyderabad University, Rohith Vemula, allegedly committed suicide after being suspended by the authorities from the hostel after a fight with the ABVP leader.
