It is not humility that makes SS Rajamouli say he doesn't deserve the Padma Shri Award, the fourth highest civilian award of the nation, but that's what he said reacting to the news.

When a profusion of talent like SS Rajamouli says so, that too stating he has not created any artistic brilliance to deserve such an honour, we cannot help but consider it only humility to the nth power.

The biggest blockbuster India has seen till date - Baahubali - that (as per various reports) stands at a whopping Rs 586.45 crore box office collection directed by Rajamouli, not only put Indian cinema on a pedestal in front of world cinema, but also proved how blockbusters can be made without compromising on quality.

 

 

The Padma awardees were announced yesterday, and Rajamouli reacted to the news on Twitter,  in a series of tweets. He started saying "I don't know what to say...Very frankly I don't feel I deserve the honour," and added "this is not humility."

"I am quite aware of my achievements," he then said, but thinks he hasn't created anyartistic brilliance to deserve the Padma Shri award.

He then tweeted awarding Ramoji Rao and Rajanikanth with Padma Vibhushan is apt as their work has created a lasting impression that will reflect even on generations to come, and said "it makes me even more humbled to share the occasion with such stalwarts."

He said the Andhra Pradesh government wanted to recommend his name for Padma Shri last year, but had requested them not to, stating the same reasons, and that they had dropped his name after his repeated requests. He also said this year he wasn't consulted and confessed he couldn't help but wonder how he got it and was surprised when he came to know he was recommended by the Karnataka government.

He ended the series of tweets with a heartwarming one that said he was born in Karnataka, studied in Andhra Pradesh, worked in Tamil Nadu and settled in Telangana, and that he is happy to be a "son" of all the states.
