Smartphones For Parents

How many of you have given smartphones to parents, is it worth it?i want to give iphone 4s to my dad( my mom's not so tech savy and she loses things) ,but i am still contemplating, cos i already gave an ipad mini and he loves it and it is always with him, i don't know if an iphone 4s will add any value, but i want to gift them something....i am thinking buying a bike too but that's for some other day
