Beware Of A New Scam Folks, Rental Scam

I am sure some of you are already aware of this kind of a scam.

I am moving to Bay Area in a week so was looking out for apartments there, oka room choosanu Sulekha lo SF financial district diggara. Rent was reasonable compared to the other ones around that area so was interested. Sare email pampanu first 3-4 times just email correspondence nadichindi. Adiga can I talk to you in person ani said first decide if you like the apartment then we can talk annadu. Sare sounds reasonable ani photos choosa, he sent a few pictures. One thing that stood out in the pictures was how well done they were professionally, meaning the pictures were almost like those that are put on an apartment's website.

Normally when we put up an apartment for rent we just put up the pictures we capture on our cell phones but these ones looked like they were professionally done and the place itself was furnished and looked like how those brochures look when management advertises their apartments up for lease. So that's the first thing. Second thing is, he says his dad is sick and he's taking care of him in El Paso, Texas so he won't be there. Upon further prodding he agreed to talk to me. His English was pathetic so I asked him if he wanted to speak in Hindi(based on his accent you could say he is from Northern India). He then says he can't speak Hindi as his mom is from US but dad's from Northern India so basically he grew up here. That was a red flag as I haven't seen anyone that grew up here have that poor a command over English.

Finally, he sent me a lease agreement which I had to sign and send back. The person to whom this amount needs to be sent however has an American name, and is not the person that's leasing the apartment out. He says he is his attorney who's going to handle the whole thing. This didn't sit with me well. So I went to my bank and explained the whole story, apparently this is one of the new scams out there. Once you wire the money(you need to wire the money as the bank account he has is an obscure/unheard of bank) your money is as good as gone.

So I came out of the bank, texted him and told him that I think this is a scam and that I want to look at the apartment before I give him the money. Then he started saying my dad is super sick I can't do that you can trust me blah blah blah. After I called him out on his BS, he stopped responding.

Just letting you folks here know, be careful anthey. If you are already aware of this scam good if not be careful guys. Don't pay money for anything that you haven't looked at in the first place.
