Kool_SRG Posted March 3, 2016 Report Posted March 3, 2016 13 Years Ago Sachin Tendulkar Tamed The Deadly Trio Of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis And Shoaib Akhtar Sachin Tendulkar has played some brilliant innings in his 24-year career. But some stand out more than others. AFP But one which stands out is the knock of 98 against Pakistan in the 2003 World Cup. March 1, 2003 saw batsmanship at a different level. The maestro unleashed a range of strokes which saw the Pakistani bowlers run for cover. The likes of Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Shoaib Akhtar had absolutely no clue where to bowl to him. The highlight of the innings was his upper cut off Shoaib which sailed into the crowd. The pacer's first over went for 18 runs and from them on the pendulum shifted in India's favour. India had been set a target of 274 and thanks to Sachin's explosive at the start of the innings, eventually won by 6 wickets to spare. India's best batsman had to battle cramps as his innings progressed, which forced Virender Sehwag to come on as a runner. But that did not hamper his stroke-play as the Pakistani shoulders began to drop. Shoaib did have the last laugh when he removed Sachin two short of a hundred. A deadly delivery rared up and the master blasted fended it off to be well caught by Younis Khan. By then however, India looked set for victory. He may have missed a century in the end, but it is one innings which will be remembered in years to come. Thirteen years on, fans on both sides of the border still recollect the day one man brought a deadly bowling attack to its knees. He may have 100 international centuries to his name, but in this case it was a knock that didn't touch three figures which demolished the opposition. Playing Pakistan in the World Cup brings out the best in Indian players and Sachin decided to stand up and be counted.
