Telangana Rashtra Samithi and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao seems to have taken a leaf out of the book of his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu in garnering free publicity even for non-achievements.

The other day, KCR and his nephew Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao made their party cadre accord them a rousing welcome from Begumpet airport, when they returned from Mumbai after signing “historic” agreements with the neighbouring Maharashtra on construction of a series of barrages on Godavari and its tributaries, including Tummidihatti and Medigadda barrages as part of much-publicised Pranahita-Chevella project.

Next day, all the media hailed the agreements and lavished praises on KCR for his wisdom and foresight in ending decades of disputes with the neighbouring State.

However, inquiries revealed that KCR had not signed any agreements with Maharashtra on construction of projects. In fact, Maharashtra Irrigation Minister Girish Mahajan told media persons in Mumbai the next day that Maharashtra had not agreed for the projects proposed by Telangana at all.

The agreement signed by the two Chief Ministers was only on constitution of an inter-State board to look into the proposals on various barrages and come out with suggestions.

“Maharashtra has its own reservations on Tummidihatti and Medigadda projects,” he clarified.

So, why “Tondarapadi oka koyila munde koosindi?”
