annaiah Posted March 18, 2016 Report Posted March 18, 2016 The city police arrested farmers and farmer leaders who attempted to organise ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ on Wednesday. The farmers, under the banner of the AP Bhoo Hakkula Parirakshana Porata Committee, tried to stage a demonstration from Old bus stand here. But, four layers of police, prevented them from going towards the CP Camp office here. The ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ was organised to oppose forcible land acquisition and other land related policies of the State government. “If farmers and agricultural workers do not resist the unilateral actions of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, they will face an unprecedented crisis,” said All India Agricultural Workers’ Union general secretary A. Vijaya Raghavan here on Sunday. Extending support to the protest building up in the State against the land acquisition drive of the government, Mr. Raghavan said: “The government is in the process of creating a land bank of 15 lakh acres. Only 20 per cent of the owners who have already parted with their land so far did so willingly. The rest are forced to part with their possessions. The Land Acquisition Act of 2013 must be adapted for acquiring land, otherwise we are going to suffer irreparably.”
