Mani Rathnam-Overrated Director

Recommended Posts

Maniratnam's movies are often direct copy of some part of mahabharatha and other epics. For example:

Roja -- Sathi Savithri story. Wife doing all the hardhips to save hubby.

Dhalapathi -- Story of Karna and Duryodhana.

Raavan - Ramayana (it seems, I din see the movie)

But I think Geethanjali, Nayakudu, Gharshana etc are original.

Maniratnam is now a veteren director who can boasts of his previous movies. He is best director in 90's .But as of now he can compete with new talented directors .just media is creating hype for his movies every time bcos of his 90's super hits. Even Guru is commercially average hit movie. Tamil factor helps him nation fame. if he is telugu guy then he would be like Viswanath (known only to local people).

Ledu boss its not talent . Only lobbying works. U can find 'n' Nunber of talented people in cinema but only tamil people will flourish nationwide where as tollywood people always fight among themselves.Tamil lobbying is better than any regional language in india

I disagree. he is the one who introduced different style of filming. not those stereotypic movies where hero heroine love and family problems... what is the base for you statement

.........ot those stereotypic movies where hero heroine love and family problems... what is the base for you statement......
starting with gitanjali to mounaragam to nayakan to roja to sakhi to guru and to Ravan..............  hero heroine, love problem were all there.

The only difference is he chooses a incident that close to reality (many times connects to some incident - rowdyism, terrorism, business passion, disease etc).

Personally I have never liked his movies except for Nayakudu, dalapathi, donga donga and sakhi. A flop movie of RGV is more sweeter :D

Sure ga chustha....Mani ratnam cinema no missing (atleast pirated) but just tht I dont really wait for his movies as RGV's (only theatre)

I dont care if they are copying (every body copies or influenced) but as long as its presentable and entertaining to my head.

Actually this movie is titled Raavan in Hindi and Ravanan in Tamil, didn’t know why it is named Villain in Telugu. However, after watching the movie, one will feel that this film is aptly titled Villain. Then who is the villain in this film? Don’t search for answers. The film itself is the biggest villain for audience. No Villain can torture anyone in the way this film tortures you. The torture starts right at start and it tries in every possible way to show you the nightmarish two hours of your life. Sadly, there are many that have fallen prey to this Villain as it was a film made by Mani Ratnam, one of the greatest filmmakers of India. Even in their worst possible dreams, Mani Ratnam’s fans or admirers wouldn’t have expected a film like this from the master director.
