Modi praises Telangana’s rapid strides

A significant development was visible in Telangana compared to other States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is said to have told his Cabinet colleagues and Governors from various States when he shared his views with them on the occasion of completing two years in office.

Discussing the performance of his government and the growth models in States, Mr. Modi is said to have confided to Union Ministers and other VIPs close to him that he based his observation also on inputs from intelligence agencies.

The agencies went into the ground situation and programmes of State governments, Centre – State relations and benefits accruing to people from programmes. The steps taken by State governments to improve their financial position and make optimal use of resources were also inquired into.

Sources close to Mr. Modi are said to have informed the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao that the Prime Minister praised Telangana for being the frontrunner among States achieving amazing growth in two years.

Mr. Modi had personally raised the programmes of Telangana at his recent meeting with Mr. Rao.

Unique programmes

The Telangana government took up unique programmes as nowhere else in the country.

Mr. Modi was particularly impressed with the power crisis that Telangana government overcame and the steps taken to permanently mitigate drought in the State. The success of Mission Kakatiya and Mission Bhageeratha, double bed room housing and Kalyanalakshmi programme came in for special mention.

The Prime Minister suggested that other States follow Mr. Rao’s growth strategy of making optimal use of available resources.

It was stated that Mr. Modi was not happy with Andhra Pradesh in making use of resources, increasing State’s own revenue and failure to structure people centric programmes.
