Goats eat Haritha Haram saplings, cops warn owners

The owners were summoned and let off after counselling.

Police said the three goats belonging to one of the villagers jumped the fencing outside the compound wall of the police station and started eating the saplings.

Three goats that ate up the saplings planted during the Haritha Haram programme at Chandur police station in Nalgonda were detained by the police. They were later let off after counselling the owner. The ZP High School at Chandur also lodged a complaint alleging that goats had eaten up saplings on the campus.
Police said the three goats belonging to one of the villagers jumped the fencing outside the compound wall of the police station and started eating the saplings. The place where they jumped in from was not visible to the sentry. The goats managed to eat all the saplings. The sentry, who noticed this, with the help of other staff, took the goats into the police station and summoned their owners.
“The three ate up the 20 newly planted saplings and also 20 teak plants that were planted two years ago and had grown more than three feet tall. We have counselled the owners not to let their animals run loose and told that them that strict action will be taken if it is repeated again,” Chandur sub inspector Bhaskar Reddy said.
Meanwhile, ZP High School which planted around 150 saplings as a part of Haritha Haram also lodged a complaint with police stating that four goats had eaten 15 saplings. The owners were summoned and let off after counselling. Police said that people should be aware of the importance of the saplings planted and ensure that their animals do not destroy the saplings.
