Advance ticket sales suggest the crime drama co-starring Radhika Apte, Dinesh Ravi, Nasser, John Vijay, Taiwanese actor Winston Chao and Malaysia’s Rosyam Nor will open strongly in India on July 22 and in the U.S., where it launches on 400 screens on July 21. Anticipation has been building since the teaser trailer was released on April 30, garnering 30 million views on YouTube, a record for an Indian release. Produced by V Creations’ Kalaippuli S Thanu and written and directed by Pa. Ranjith, the Malaysian-set Kabali stars Rajinikanth as an aged Chennai-based gangster, Kabaliswaran, who tries to save and protect the contracted Indian laborers who are battling to survive in South East Asian countries. Fox Star Studios is launching the film on more than 1,000 screens, dubbed in Hindi and Telugu, across India except for the southern markets.Nationwide the film will occupy around 4,000 screens.
