In what is being seen as the most grandest and the most gut wrenching movies for this year and also the most likely blockbuster for 2009, the film 'Arundhati' has made it to the screens. Though the start was quite a bit bumpy with the release date getting postponed and a question still remained till the boxes arrived into the theatres, the moment it began the swarm of appeal and impact it gave washed away the rest of the movies that were in the Sankranti fray.

Till the time that 'Arundhati' arrived, folks were compromising with a rather average 'Maska' to be the relief provider but as soon as the movie arrived, it became a wake up call to many and in no time, the news spread like wildfire that here is a movie that has it all to be termed as an authentic blockbuster hit.

So what made 'Arundhati' so special despite its leading lady Anushka who has always been known for her sex appeal turning out in some of the most grandest costumes and decent looks.

The first in the list of many credits goes to the graphics team that has come out with some of the most world class techniques and visual effects. Folks say that never before in the history of the Telugu cinema has such a rich graphic treat been given and most importantly, it looked so convincing and real that audience had to cling on to their dear lives to survive the chills and thrills of the film.

Secondly, the cinematography that has come out with a truly mesmerizing experience and the angles, the lighting and the many other effects that it gave was mind blowing. Added to that, it blended really well with the graphics and there were those who said that the film gave a feel of the Hollywood blockbuster '300' at few places.

The technical issues apart, it is the shock points in the movie that provided good horror points at few instants and one cannot deny that they have been getting sleepless nights over the past few days with the scenes rushing back to their minds and scaring the wits out of them. Also, the pace of the film has been so well maintained and though it was a treat for more than two and a half hours with barely three songs, it sure managed to keep the audience glued to their seats without blinking an eye.

The concept of black magic and the clash of an evil spirit with a powerful individual has been portrayed very well and the message that good always prevails over evil even if it takes an amount of sacrifice has been given clearly that worked well with the audience. The amalgamation of time between the 1920s and today also is another factor that was in sync with the story and made good sense to the plot.

Last but not the least, it is the performances. Anushka has beaten all the odds and came up with a stupendous performance and her portrayal as Jejamma has been the major highlight that earmarked the true royalty of a brave woman. She has shown maturity in that role and her eyes conveyed a lot. Sayaji Shinde was an adrenaline booster with his phenomenal strength and intensity. Sonu Sood from his ended blended well with his dark role and there could not have been a better choice than him who was familiar with the Telugu audience.

Overall, the film succeeds given its off beat genre and the composition of thriller, horror, power and belief elements. This is a seriously hard hitting film that had the right ingredients in terms of technical values, performances and though the content has been low, it is the creativity and the centering of the message that really worked for its success. This could well be a cult movie of our times
