Rajinikanth's 'Kabali' first day box office collection is fake; inflated numbers used to lure more audience

Rajinikanth's latest release "Kabali" made a first day box office collection of around Rs. 48 crore in India but certain reports stated that the movie earned a whopping Rs. 250 crore on its opening day from the domestic market.

"Kabali" made almost half of its opening day collection in India from Tamil Nadu itself. Having been declared tax-free in Tamil Nadu, the film earned around Rs. 21 crore on its first day from the state and the rest from across India.

 

 

However, the producers of the Rajinikanth-starrer had reportedly claimed that "Kabali" made a box office collection of Rs. 250 crore; Rs. 100 crore from Tamil Nadu alone and Rs. 150 crore from others parts of India.

Several trade experts have rubbished the reports of "Kabali" earning Rs. 250 crore on its opening day and said that the producers circulated inflated numbers in order to attract more audience in the theatres.

It appears that the producers made fake claims regarding "Kabali" box office numbers with the belief that it would make people think positively about the movie and they would throng into the theatres.

"Producers release hyped BO figures for psychological reasons. It impacts the audience minds and they feel if the BO figures are so good, the film must be good too and go to watch it. Thus, these figures can influence the paying audience," trade expert Atul Mohan told DNA.

"I don't think hyping box office collections will help the film's collections in any way. It's an ego trip the film-makers are on. Will anybody ever go to see a film that's bad, but claim to have made Rs 100 crore. They are trying to fool the public and themselves with such hyped figures," Komal Nahta told the daily talking about the fake first day collection of "Kabali."

Distributor Rajesh Thadani found the inflated numbers to be insane as he said: "The Rs 250 crore is far-stretched and insane. You are making a fool of yourself to inflate to such an extent. It's possible to attain the Rs 100 crore mark though."

Directed by Pa. Ranjith, "Kabali" has grossed Rs. 150 crore from the box offices in India and the worldwide collection was reportedly nearing Rs. 250 crore on its fifth day.
