Reading a book should be like knowing the author nothing more nothing less. its just like you meet someone in a train and know how different people can be... ayn rand is a different kind of a person... She even said on record that a women is not biologically and naturally not fit to be a president... That doesn't make any of her books or works trash...also we shud not be carried away by every book we read... We need to see things from 30,000 ft view like an eagle and decide what it all means as a whole.. Names of people I met on a train are not brought up in regular conversations, in a venerative tone. So it is okay to punch the ego of people that worship Ayn Rand. About women not biologically fit. Cancer is also naturally occurring phenomena. Would you stop getting treatment, and let nature take its course, and eat you up from the inside? Anyway the 40s, 50s, were different periods. She was just pandering to her fans, spouting BS after BS to sell her pathetically written book. Ayn Rand and her disciples care about nothing in the world but themselves. So may be they should stop giving sermons to others, because its quite clear they can't fix their own lives. Ayn Rand is just an A grade asshole, who begged for state handouts for her medical treatment, while decrying welfare policies for others. Quote
VizagRocks Posted August 13, 2016 Report Posted August 13, 2016 books are read for different purposes. One of which is to get to know the author. Which makes it okay to attack the author if you hate the book. There's no need to assume that you have the privilege of sitting above everyone else, trying to understand the whole picture. You dont. You are just ordinary, like everyone else. Quote
VizagRocks Posted August 13, 2016 Report Posted August 13, 2016 Ayn Rand fans make good salesmen/entrepreneurs. I haven't actually met a serious scientist who claimed out loud that he/she loves Ayn Rand. Usually they grow out of it by the time they are 18. Quote

VizagRocks Posted August 13, 2016 Report Posted August 13, 2016 Her only book I loved, on hindsight, was Anthem. But her books are outdated. They are relevant for the time it was written when the world was moving towards collectivism. Its absolutely cruel to inflict those books in this day and age, where people celebrate anyone who is wealthy, and smart people succeed, without getting bogged down by the mob. If you think you are smart, and haven't succeeded because some imaginary mob is out to get you, it means you are not actually smart. Philosophy has lagged behind mankind's social and tech progress. Ayn Rand's objectivism should rank as among the worst of those pseudo philosophies, that should belong in trash bins. Quote

icecreamZ Posted August 13, 2016 Report Posted August 13, 2016 anthem was a nice subtle mockery on how our society would look like when everyone loses their individual thinking while confirming to the society's norms. though pure objectivism would work only when every one are proud about their individuality and everyone's rights are safeguarded. I see her arguments and philosophies as more of a way to realize an individuals complete potential with a sole aim to satisfy themselves. Quote
