Chandra Shekhar Azad, A Freedom Fighter From The Age Of 15

Chandra Shekhar Azad was considered one among the revolutionary fighters who was instrumental in re-organizing the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA).

Participation in freedom movement

Born in 1906, he took his leap into the freedom struggle at a tender age of 15, when Mahatma Gandhi started the Non-co-operation movement. His participation in the Non-co-operation movement landed him in jail and when his instant responses to the magistrate upon his hearing made him famous among many.

He joins HRA

Gandhi suspended Non-co-operation and Azad was fired up by the same. He eventually joined the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA) under the auspice of Ram prasad Bismil. As an active member of the HRA, he started to collect funds through robberies of government property. As a staunch follower of socialism, he wanted to build a new India based on socialist principles.

 

Azad was eventually surrounded by the British in the forests where he used to practice his skills. Azad had taken a vow that he not would die by the bullet of the British and he eventually shot himself. Before his death, Azad’s revolutionary activities shook the British. He was involved in the Kakori Train Robbery of 1925, blowing up the Viceroy’s train in 1926, and the shooting of J.P. Saunders at Lahore in 1928 to avenge the killing of Lala Lajpat Rai.
