We have already reported that the overseas rights of Janatha Garage were bought for 7.2 Crore(USA 5.5 Crores, Rest of the world 1.7 Crores) by FICUS Entertainment. The distribution house released the film on their own in many areas as exhibitors backed out after they quoted very high prices. After a strong first weekend, the collections have slowed down in the second week and total added to $1.7 Million so far. The distributor is just breaking even as they own released in major areas for the above said reason. But, in some areas, for which the movie was bought by local exhibitors at very high prices are going to loose 30%. For example, the Bay Area rights were sold for 175K. As of now, the gross in this region is 175k. So, the exhibitor is going to loose around 30%. Nevertheless, considering the commercial genre and the initial mixed reports, Janatha Garage performed on par with expectations in overseas. Had the overseas rights been bagged for a lesser price, the film would have been a profitable venture for all the parties involved. Quote

Example - Let's say some movie US rights was sold to A for 6 crores. A will sell this movie to US disrubutors X, Y, Z.. for 7 crores. Now A is in 1 crore profits. Let's say X brought for 2 crores, Y and Z brought for 2.5 crores each. Now X will sell this movie to Exhibitor P for 2.5 crores. Distributor X is in profit of .5 crore. Dis. Y and Z will sell for Exh. Q and R for 3 crores. Distributors are in profits now. Final ga cinema flop ite, exhibitors ki loss. US rights konnodu and Distributors are already in profits. Sometimes US rights konnode release chestadu movie US antha or sometimes distributors choose to release the movie if he's confidence. But ultimately, mostly these guys will sell the movie to exhibitors for high price, for atleast minimum profits. Quote
