One more problem is different clients expecting different toolsets

You are right. However, I think they are mostly flexible on the tools aspect. 

For example, if you have a very good working knowledge of Puppet they won't discriminate against you if their Configuration Management utilizes Chef. You get the gist. 

But then there are exceptions, recently did a call for a guy that didn't convert. Reason: I told the interviewer more about my Puppet experience than my Chef experience, and he presumed I wouldn't like working on Chef(which is what they use)
