Bought a town home in VA. Major factors were:

 

1) We both wanted to live in a place which is reasonably isolated but also close to all the major shopping centers. Our house fit the bill perfectly.

2) It came at a price we both could afford.

3) Since we have a lot of pets it had to be reasonably big home and we got it.

4) Very safe area in terms of crime and law and order. 

5) Close to the beach.

6) Close to job.
